A little bit about us

I started fishing the flowing waters of the Great Lakes back in 1996. Prior to that I never realized what a great fishery we have in this region. Most of my experiences have been around northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania. As my curiosities grew, so did my travels around the Great Lakes. I have been fortunate to make a few trips to Michigan, New York, Ontario, Quebec, the Florida Keys and a Mid-Summer 2007 ten day trip to Alaska. By reading publications from people who have traveled this road way before me, and fishing with whom I consider some of the top guides in the industry, I have learned many methods to catching salmon, trout and different species of saltwater fish.

There are many different ways to catch these fish and after time I have found that my favorite method is with the fly rod. Whether it would be dead drifting nymphs, presenting dry flies, stripping or swinging streamers thru the deep pools, it was all a joy to me to feel the strike and hookup from the targeted fish of the day.

Fishing over the years has helped me refine my techniques and has brought me to the method I strongly believe in which is what has given me most of my success. This method is The Right Angle Floating Indicator Technique. I will fish with a strike indicator whenever the conditions allow it. There are times when the river conditions are to a point where I feel that a strike indicator is not necessary, but most of the time I will use one.

A Strike Indicator is a tool that serves many purposes to the fisherman. When used properly, it not only helps the fishermen to detect the strike but can also assist in accurately tracking the drift. This method is very beneficial when wanting to fish the entire part of the water in front of you with precise accuracy. A Strike Indicator can also help minimize snags by properly setting the depth. When fishing The Right Angle Floating Indicator Technique it is not necessary to have more than One Time the Depth of the Hole, in line distance between the indicator and the fly. Anything more than this is a major cause of snagged fish and snagged debris and bottom. Float Master Strike Indicators are designed to fish The Right Angle Floating Indicator Technique

There are many different styles and brands of strike indicators available to the fisherman and I've fished with a wide variety of them. Most of these led to frustrations in one way or another, whether it was from trying to keep them tight on the line where they were first positioned, make simple depth adjustments or just to keep them on the line, period. Most of the created trouble came from trying not to lose them which was like throwing money down the river or into the trees and brush behind me.  A classic example of this was losing the black plastic retaining pegs or the wooden toothpicks provided with some indicators, or trying to keep the slotted, rubber insert brands on my line.  This would render me helpless short of carrying several backups. All of this resulted in spending too much time working on my setup and less time actually fishing.

So being that necessity is the mother of invention, I developed Float Master Strike Indicators. Looking at the whole picture and seeing what I wanted my strike indicator to do, I sat down at the drawing board and put my ideas to use. Over a period of time trying different materials and methods, I now produce a durable, reusable strike indicator that stays on the line, can be adjusted for different depths and stays where you set it. The convenient thing about this is you can install it on your line at any time and remove it just as easy within seconds without breaking down your setup. This is an important thing as you discover changing fishing conditions on the water.

Float Master Products now offers TEN different sizes and FOURTEEN different color combinations of strike indicators to help you endure the changing fishing conditions we face from day to day. This quality strike indicator is made to minimize your setup time and maximize your fishing time. Our strike indicators are durable, highly visible, reusable, stay tight on your line and are easily adjustable.
